WILLINGNESS

Feb 18, 2022

There comes a time in each of our lives that we go through change ~ in reality, it's not just once but many times over the course of our lives.  Sometimes the change is thrust upon us and other times we decide that it's time for a change.  In either case, the most important ingredient for lasting change is willingness.  Willingness to walk through the pain to reach our goal, willingness to do the work, willingness to do whatever it takes to change what it is that is causing us pain, willingness to take responsibility for our lives and our actions, willingness to forgive ourselves and others so that we can let go of the past and embrace the future.  Willingness to step out on faith and into the unknown.  It is much easier to hold onto the pain that we know and walk blindly into the uncertainty of the future.

What I've found in my life is that every time I become willing to let go I find peace.  The outcome isn't always what I expect or even what I thought I wanted but in each case, the outcome is a greater good than I had imagined.  This is not to say that I let go once find that fabulous peace and I'm on my way.  No, I'm a bit more stubborn than that....  I let go and take it back (sometimes in the same moment!) let go, take it back.  It's a regular tug of war.  The times that I take it back the journey is tough and fraught with pot holes and stumbling blocks.

Let's face it change is scary, what I find more scary is NOT changing.  Being too scared to change is like locking yourself in a dark, windowless, drafty, little room and telling yourself that it's okay because you like it when in reality you're dying a little bit inside every day that you stay in that room.  It's okay to be scared but it's not okay to let that fear stop you from becoming the person to want to be or to keep you from achieving your hopes and dreams.  Every time that we face what scares us we become bolder and stronger and braver. We realize that we really CAN create the life of our dreams and that yes we do indeed deserve it.

I get frustrated with my clients when they show up week after week and say that they want to get healthier and lose weight and then only give only minimum effort at exercising when they're with me and do nothing on their own.  It's almost as if they expect that by hiring a trainer and showing up once a week their body will magically transform.  Making lasting changes requires effort and often times discomfort and the strength to resist being pulled back into old familiar behavior patterns.  I know that it's their fear and lack of belief in themselves that stops them from moving forward it's just frustrating to watch when I KNOW what is waiting for them on the other side.

It is up to each of us individually to ask ourselves what we are WILLING to do to move from the discomfort of where we are into the pleasure of getting where we want to go.  For some reason this makes me think of the saying "You have to break some eggs if you want an omelet".  After all, nothing changes until something or someone changes.  It's not easy - it does take courage, strength and faith and most of all willingness to begin the journey.

What are you willing to do today to help start moving towards your goal?  Only you are able to answer this question because only you know the pain of where you are.  Often times the smallest first step is the bravest action that we can take which will lead to bigger steps as we gain strength and courage.  My hope for you is to go out and be bold and daring and start taking the steps towards your best self today.  You really are amazing and deserve the best that life has to offer so go out there and claim it for your very own - all it takes is willingness.

Here's to you in Health, Wellness, and Abundance!
